Thanks to its excellent geographical location in the heart of Europe, Basel has developed into a centre with particular appeal and international recognition. Basel is one of the most important economic and cultural centres in Europe. The shopping center St. Jakob-Park is located in close proximity to its city centre.

In addition, the shopping center St. Jakob-Park enjoys an exceptionally high degree of recognition thanks to the integrated soccer stadium. Because Basel is this also for Switzerland: the football city par excellence.

The shopping center St. Jakob-Park is now no longer Basel’s largest shopping centre, but the brand “most popular” undoubtedly remained.

SHOPPING, STUNNING, ENJOYING AND BASEL

Together, we maintain and promote the Basler City as the most attractive and largest shopping, commercial and service center in the region. For an economic and cultural city like Basel, efficient public transport is indispensable. With its dense stretch network and short clock sequences, BVB promotes the mobility of people in the city as well as closer agglomeration and links Basel to neighboring countries. It helps to relieve the traffic on the road and thus contributes to a high quality of life and to the protection of the environment.

Public transport is very popular in Basel. BVB transports nearly 134 million passengers per year. That’s about 360,000 people every day. There are 125 trams and 66 trailers on nine trams. 118 buses operate 15 bus lines. If one calculates the performance of all BVB vehicles, they circle the earth every day.

More than 1,200 BVB employees ensure a smooth operation 365 days a year. Founded in 1895, BVB now operates more than 190 kilometers of tram and bus lines as the largest partner in the tariff network of North-West Switzerland (TNW) in Basel-Stadt and the surrounding area. Since December 2014, the tramline 8 to Weil am Rhein (D) has been running a tram to Germany for the first time. Currently, the extension of Tramline 3 to Saint Louis is being built. Commissioning is scheduled for the end of 2017. In the coming years, BVB is modernizing its fleet: the first two of a total of 61 new FLEXITY trams were put into operation at the end of 2014. The new tram fleet will be delivered by the end of 2017. Last year, 55 new articulated buses were put into operation.

BVB has been managed as a public-law institution since 2006, which is wholly owned by the canton of Basel-Stadt.
