Ekiden

The Team Run is also called ‘Ekiden Marathon’. It has its seeds in Japan: ‘Eki’ means stop or station, ‘den’ means relay or forwarding. The definition originates from those days, when relay runners were used to transmit important messages. You can imagine it as a kind of runner transition area where arriving runners pass their messages to the next runners. You will find all information regarding Team Run (Ekiden) below.

Team Run

At the Team Run 6 runners split the marathon distance. Each runner completes one section from 2 – 4 laps on a 2.5-kilometre-long route. All together the Team Run Marathon is 17 loops and Team Run Half Marathon is 9 loops to run. A Team consists of 6 runners and each must only run one section. The sections will be defined while registration.

Team Run Marathon Team Run Half Marathon
Runner A 4 loops (10k) 2 loops (3.6k)
Runner B 2 loops (5k) 1 loop (2.5k)
Runner C 4 loops (10k) 2 loops (5k)
Runner D 2 loops (5k) 1 loop (2.5k)
Runner E 2 loops (5k) 1 loop (2.5k)
Runner F 3 loops (7.2k) 2 loops (5k)

It is possible that all runners arrive together at the finish line.

All team captains will receive the information for their team by mail in time. The bib numbers for all categories can be picked up either at the runners’ exhibition on Saturday, September 23, or at school Gymnasium Leonhard on Sunday, September 24.
